Sam Vogel - Week 6 Devlog
For our environments we really wanted to focus on blocking out how and where our player will move. This is crucial for our animators to use early for animating over these blackouts. The environments themselves are dynamic and provide interest across the entire screen for young players to constantly feel immersed in the 2D environment. The game world is split into 3 sections, the exposition arc (Chinstraps Bedroom, Hideout, and the Map), the Jungle Island (Bay, Town, Lagoon, and Jungle), and Cave Island (Entrance, Crystal Cavern, Cove, and Waterfalls). Each of these sections will contain their own themes and color schemes so that they stand out from each other. Entrances and Exits were planned to create interesting, but relatively easy animations, making the scenes feel dynamic.
Our biggest challenges were figuring out where to place items and entrances/exits, so that animations would not be overcomplicated.
Our next steps are to create more detailed versions of each scene. Then we can begin to block out colors and lighting.
