Connor Leck - Week 6 Devlog


I have been assigned to draw sketches for some of the inventory and pickup items that we decided to use for our game. For the inventory items I have drawn a plank, an umbrella, and a treasure chest and for the pickup items I have drawn two variants of pirate coins, gems, and diamonds. Everything that I drew in my sketchbook was actually already illustrated in my mind so they were all my own designs but I did do some exploring on images or drawings of pirate coins and jewels on Google Images for reference. The biggest challenge for me on this part of the project was to draw all of my items in three dimensions especially the jewels because it was pretty hard to do and it was also time consuming. Thankfully I was able to solve this problem by going back to the reference images from earlier and then I practiced on drawing them from the images that I found. Overall I thought that my drawings were really good from what I was able to accomplish however it seems that the gems in particular ended up being somewhat disproportionate on the areas that I made them look like they are in a 3D angle. The next step that I have been assigned to work on is to bring my drawings into Photoshop so I can draw them again in there and then add their colors in order to finalize them. I also need to start adding the base colors for the island map in terms of environment.
